Transportation in the country like Sri Lanka is not harder to find as it is one of the best Tourist places in the world. Thus transportation means are easily available to one according to its need, choice and budget. There are many modes for the transportation like rail, airlines, busses, auto rickshaws, cars, biking and many more to travel within the Sri Lankan cities.

Railways

it is the cheapest mode of travelling within the different cities of Sri Lanka. The main drawback for the rail network in Sri Lanka is its Range which is not too large and is also very crowded .The rail network of the country covers the different part of all the provinces the best out of that is the main line between Colombo-badulla which runs very close to the steep mountains of the Sri Lankan highlands. The cities which are connected to the Sri Lankans rail network are Kandy, Matara, Galle, Negombo, Puttalam Gampaha, Matale, Kurunegala, Avissawella, Polonnaruwa, Batticaloa, Trincomalee, Kalutara, Badulla, Gampola,Anuradhapura,Nawalapitiya, Vavuniya, and Chilaw and last but not the least the Capital of country Colombo.

Airlines

The regular domestic flights in Sri Lanka are quite limited there are only the flights between the capital city Colombo and Jaffna, however five years back the flights for Trincomalee came into existence but was dropped again due to decreasing tourism in 2004 after the attack on nature( tsunami). The plans for some more local flights would be plan if the tourism rate increases again.

Buses

Travelling in Sri Lanka by a bus can be quite interesting. These Busses provide the Snacks as well as the reading books for the Long distances at the optimal cost. Some local singers went up to the bus moving aisle and collecting charity from the tourists. Buses do sometimes have their stoppage at temples so that passengers and drivers can take photos of these temples and can make donations.
The point to be noted that the first two seats of the CTB busses are always reserved for the Buddhist monks known as “CLERGY’. If you want to fixed your seat you should have to enter the at the beginning of the bus route otherwise you may miss out on a seat in such Busses. In some places of Sri Lanka some peoples have been seen rushing towards the busses as soon as its came in and throwing their bags and handkerchiefs from a window so as to make that seat reserved for themselves.
It would be quite challenging to find the correct buses in the city like Colombo and kandy as because of large density of buses in these two places. Usually some virtual signs like a hand written or painted board revealing the destination names of that places so people might some time get confused and may choose the wrong bus. So the best way to enter a right bus is to ask the conductor or driver about the destination of the bus before getting into it which make you sure that you are taking the right bus.
In some towns there are separate stations for the different destinations which help you to find the correct bus.
Thus buses connect you to all those small places where airplanes and railways can’t reach, and best point is that that this mode of transportation is the most economical of all.

Taxi

Taxis are easily available in any of the cities. it is always advisable to fix the price before boarding the taxi’s. Metered-taxis are only available in the big towns and cities and not in the small places. You should always try to negotiate the price they offer to you before hiring the taxi in such places. The so called "three wheelers" are also easily available for small distances in all parts of the country mainly outside the railway stations and the bus stands. The negotiation rule applies here too.

Car rentals

Another best means of transportation available in the Sri Lanka is car on rent that is you can hire a car for the tour. There are many car rental shops which will offer you the different packages and deals as per your need and requirements. As the costs of these cars on rent are not too much so the normal tourists can easily afford it. These car rental companies also provide the facilities like online booking of the cars on rent just by filling up of a single form online. This helps the tourist to book their private vehicle of their own choice with no load and no headache.
